Happy Two Month Birthday, Carter!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but my life is just a bit crazier nowadays.  =)

I am back at work now.  My first day was Wednesday, February 1st.  It was a hard decision to make.  If I didn’t come back to work this week, I knew it would be another month before I could make myself do it.  Now that I am here, despite being exhausted, I know I made a good decision.  Just like with Ricky, Carter is being cared for by both sets of grandparents, so I know my babies are in good hands.

I feel like there is so much that I missed telling yall.  Ricky cut his right canine tooth on 1/13, but the other one has yet to make an appearance.  I his gums are hurting him.  He has been such a doll since Carter arrived.  At first he was a little freaked out with the crying, but he has really warmed up to him, and Carter’s eyes follow him all around the room.  He likes to come hold Carter’s hand, bring him bottles, throw away his dirty diapers for me, and name every part of Carter’s body that he knows (which includes poking him in the eye!).  He sometimes isn’t careful enough around him… Carter has been trampled a time or two (no worse for the wear!), but never on purpose.  I love Ricky’s little voice when he says “baby Carter”, which sounds like BAY-bee CAR-uh.  So sweet.  He also likes to sit on the potty now.  He isn’t ready for potty training, and he has never actually used the potty, but he knows what it is and what it’s used for now.

While I was out on leave, I usually walked 30 mins to an hour every day with Carter in the k’tan.  It was nice to get out and get some exercise and breathe in the fresh air.  So far, I miss that the most, other than seeing Carter’s sweet face all day every day.  I also made it to the park a lot.  On my mom’s days, I would call her and she would bring Ricky up there to meet us (she lives literally 3 mins down the street from the park I go to).  We would walk the kids in the stroller and then let Ricky go wild on the swings and the slides.  It was really nice getting to spend extra time with him while I wasn’t working.  Having only two full days with him on the weekends isn’t nearly enough.

Carter was rather difficult for me to handle for about the first 6 weeks, but I think we have come to an understanding with each other at this point.  He was very needy and wanted to be held all the time.  That would have been fine if he were my first baby, but having Ricky to care for and play with also, made it quite stressful.  It was hard to put him down long enough for me to pump.  Oh yes, about that.  I have a whole post that is sitting in draft about my breast feeding experience, but I will tell you briefly that it was a bust… again.  We had to supplement with 2 to 4 ounces of formula for a few days when Carter was in his second week of life, which maybe ruined him for nursing.  Once he got the instant gratification from the bottle, he was too impatient to nurse.  He will only nurse now for comfort or when he wants a “snack”, lol.  By week 3 he was back to drinking only breast milk, though, which I am proud of.  I only use maybe 2 ounces of formula a week if I haven’t brought enough milk with me when I am out running errands.  That’s a huge victory for me.  I may dislike having to pump 5-6 times a day (which is down from 7-8 times a day for the first month!), but the benefits far outweigh the annoyance of the whole pumping process.

Carter is a sweet baby, though.  He is very different from his brother in many ways.  I don’t want to compare and contrast them because they will be compared to each other by society for the rest of their lives, but I will say I love their differences.  Carter has his daddy’s skin tone and dark hair.  He is so proficient at tummy time and rolls from belly to back daily.  He doesn’t like to lie on his back, prefers to be held, and won’t sleep at night unless I am holding him.  He started smiling at 6 weeks and he has the sweetest little coos.  He is very strong.  His neck and back grow stronger every day.  He likes to bat at the toys that are hanging from his infant carrier.  He doesn’t spit up nearly as much as his brother did, which is awesome.  At three weeks he decided he was a big boy and didn’t need to be swaddled at night anymore, but by five weeks, I had to start doing it again.  Life is much easier with him being swaddled!  He eats about every three hours.  His hands are ridiculously strong and he still likes to keep them in fists.  The only problem he has is a clogged tear duct, which results in his right eye being a little goopy and it drains all day.  We are supposed to massage it and put a warm compress on it.

I am out of time for now, but I will post some pictures below of my little one’s first two days as a dynamic duo.  Pics are courtesy of Nana!

Thanks, mom!

What do I see on his sweet little face?!  PURE JOY!
It almost makes me tear up.
Thanks for sending me the pic today, mom.
In case you are confused- he is on a swing at the park.

Things are going well this week.  I haven't been able to spend a whole lot of time with my little bear due to having a late night hair appointment on Wednesday and then working my usual late night on Thursday, but I am looking forward to a fun weekend with him.  I hope the nice weather holds out so we can go on lots of walks and explore all over the backyard.

I have discovered that baby #2 creates an excellent prop to support baby # 1 on, lol.  My lil man is getting heavier by the day (or so it seems!), so my tummy is just now big enough to prop Ricky on so he doesn't keep sliding down my side when I hold him.  Weird, I know, but I take my victories when I can get them.

Happy Friday!

Happy Labor Day!  My family of 3 is enjoying the long weekend.

I went out this morning to get us some breakfast.  Just because there is a holiday does not mean that my child wants to sleep in.  I have enjoyed getting to spend 3 whole days with him, even if we are stuck indoors due to the tropical storm.    Presently, I am spending some alone time on the couch watching tv while Rickybear plays with Scout in the crib.  He really should be ready for a nap right about now!  He didn't sleep well again... I am assuming because of teething.  He was a little warm all day yesterday.  Uh oh, now he is yelling for daddy...  =)

I love how he dances back and forth now whenever music plays.  He will bring me a toy over and over so I can start the music for him.  He will rock back and forth with the biggest grin on his face.

He has started to say a few new things.... what I think is "good morning" and "baby".  My parents swear he has said "red" but I haven't heard it yet, although it does seem to be his new favorite color.

I have to check the trash cans at least once a day.  He has gotten so good at putting things up in his toy box that he also like to put things in the garbage cans for us.  This week I have found 2 sippy cups and a stuffed duck.

Well, I guess he isn't going down for a nap so I probably need to go get him.  Take care!

Spaghetti

Rickybear had spaghetti for the first time over the weekend.  Stripped him down, put on the biggest bib available, put a towel over the highchair, and he went to town.
WHAT A MESS.  But he loved it, obviously.

Morning at the park

Yesterday daddy and I took Rickybear to the park.
I hope we can go every other weekend- we all loved it!!

Watch this, mommy!

And so it begins...

We always have the bathroom door shut and we have a lock on the toilet lid, but I was in the room with him when this happened.  I was standing at the sink brushing my teeth when I felt something soft brush against my leg.  It took me a moment to realize that we no longer have an inside cat, so it wasn't a kitty cat tail!  Little boy was so very proud of himself!  He drug it all the way out into the hallway before I could catch him.

Oops!

Mwa ha ha!  This is Rickybear after waking up from a nap yesterday evening.
The hair cracks me up.  He sleeps pretty wildly!

So I made another boo boo this morning in regards to the baby.  Last week I forgot to bring formula to Maw Maw's house when I dropped the baby off, but luckily his daddy was leaving for work right after me and I called him in time to drop it off.  So glad at that moment that we only live 5 minutes from them!  But today, I brought Rickybear in the wrong car seat to drop him off at my mom's.

I have both the infant carrier and the car seat installed in my car.  There's no reason to take the infant seat out since I am going to have a new baby again soon.  Well, Maw Maw has a car seat installed in her car, so I use that on her days, but my mom just got a car seat this week and it isn't installed yet, so we have been using the infant carrier on her days.  Well, oops, I wasn't thinking and just strapped him in his big boy seat and off we went!  It dawned on me 20 minutes later that this was a problem....  So yeah, I made my mom switch cars with me for the day so I wouldn't have to drive back home.  Wow.  At least she didn't seem to mind.   Thanks, mom!  =)

Finally!

BUSTED!!!

Ok, so I finally got around to installing some of the childproofing hardware on the kitchen cabinets.  Hopefully this will cut down on some of my kitchen mess.  It does not, however, cut down the the BANG BANG BANG BANG as my child repeatedly attempts to open up the cabinets!  Oy!

My mistake was not putting them on the drawers, as well.  He can -just- barely reach them, but ow that he cannot open the cabinets, he rolls out the drawers, even if he can't reach what is inside of them.  Sneaky boy!

He'll just find something else to get into now...

What?? I didn't do anything....

Ugh....

I am getting so very frustrated with the state of my house.  It feels like I never have enough time/energy/patience to do all the housework that needs to be done and still have some "me" time.  I know that once you have a baby, your needs become a distant memory, but sometimes it's just not fair to have baby in tow for everything I do.  I can't easily unload the dishwasher because he wants to crawl in and play.  I can't easily do laundry because he unfolds everything I try to fold.  I can't easily cook because he locks me in the pantry and opens every cabinet.  Plus, I feel guilty that I am not spending every little moment I have playing with him.  Even now he is yanking on my power plug, wanting my attention.  But instead, I shooed him away and so he playing with the spoon I used to eat my cereal.  *sigh*

I honestly feel like I am doing the best I can.  I don't like tossing him in the crib for an hour so I can do chores and he rarely naps in the evening anymore.  That takes away from mommy/baby time that I feel like I don't get enough of anyway.

Well, the kitchen is an absolute wreck, so after I change Rickybear's dirty tush and clean him up from breakfast, I will try to unload and load the dishwasher.  Want to take bets on how long that will take me?

Water baby

I am jealous of how much my baby gets to play in the pool.  My parents have a gorgeous pool that I don't use nearly enough.  The baby loves floating in the big pool, but he also loves his baby pool.  He has one at our house at each house he stays at during the day.

This is my mom's dog.  His name is Jake and he is super protective of the family, including my little man.  He looks massive, right??  But Ricky loves him.  Oh, and no worries about the doggie climbing in the pool and knocking him over- Jake is terrified of water!

Nom nom

Rickybear doesn't really like many of the teething toys I got for him, but he LOVES to chew on his stuffed animals.  Anything that has a nose is fair game, but he particularly likes Pooh, Tigger, and Mickey Mouse.  He will walk around all day with a stuffed animal nose in his mouth.  I love it, lol!

In this instance, he went for the tail.  I'm just glad he didn't choke on it while he slept.  Good grief!

Daddy and Baby

We keep Rickybear up later than most babies his age because his daddy come homes so late from work right now.  When the alarm chimes that the back door has opened, Rickybear jumps up and runs towards the door, no matter what he had been doing or playing with before.  I think this time while daddy changes out of his work clothes and gets ready to eat is the best time of both of their days.  They love to play play play!

This one was taken last night.

Just a quick update

Rickybear went in for his weight check Monday.  Over the past month he ended up gaining about 6 oz due to his new high calorie diet, so the doctor was pleased with that.  We won't have to go back for another 2 months.

I am pretty much obsessed with my baby right now.  Everything he does is awesome.  I love love love to hear him sing to himself.  I will sing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and when I stop singing, he will pick right up where I left off.  No words, obviously, but he does have the melody down.

He also used "bye bye" in context yesterday.  He was playing with a toy helicopter, but lost interest in it and moved on.  Well, after maybe 15 seconds of inactivity, it tells the baby "bye bye".  So Ricky looked up from the toy he was playing with, and told the helicopter "bye bye"!  I was so tickled.  Daddy was was on the phone with me, but couldn't hear it.  Once we were done talking, I put him on speakerphone so he and Rickybear could talk a minute.  When daddy told him "bye bye" he said it right back!  I have a genius baby!  =)  Maybe not, but it was still something new and I was just so pleased.  I skyped my mom and dad, and after much prodding, he finally did it for them, too.

My favorite part of yesterday was the family walk we took last night.  Sushi, our kitty, ended up walking along behind us the whole way.  We found our beach ball in the neighbor's yard, so we walked along and Rickybear pushed the ball.  He would stop and play with his shadow, look up at the lights, play in a yard, etc.  It was fun to just let him explore new territory.  We ended up having to carry the baby (and the kitty!) part of the way, but he did a great job walking along on his own.  Such a big boy!

Happy Friday

Just a quick pic of my lil man playing at the playground yesterday.  I <3 him!

Daddy's little man!

Daddy can't wait until that little dude can go out in the yard with him, running around with a rake and playing in the dirt.  We are almost getting there.

We have a third tooth coming through- his top left front tooth.  Maybe that's why he has been such a poor sleeper lately, but daddy has been such a great help with the extra nightly wakings.  The tooth has just barely broken the skin and he won't let me touch it, except when I am brushing his teeth with the little finger toothbrush.  I wish I could get a picture of those little suckers!

Again, not a good idea.  What are you thinking, son?!?!

Spoons are yummy...

Boogie had a pretty full weekend.  We sat outside on Saturday under a shade tree and played while daddy slaved away doing yard work and other outside chores.  (Side note: My child screams like I am torturing him when I put sunscreen on him.  Huge tears rolling down his sweet cheeks.  Good grief!)  The neighbors came home and saw us outside, so they brought their lil girl over to play.  I had a very nice time.  I hope I can upload some pics from that day soon.  (Another side note: It's such a pain to upload pictures.  If I try to work on my laptop when Rickybear is awake, he is constantly trying to yank it out of my lap and play on it, plus I don't like ignoring him.  I can't really do it while he is taking a nap, either, because that's when I work on the ever-growing pile of laundry or start making dinner.  And after hubby gets home?  Forget it!  Once I get him fed and the baby put to bed, I am ready for bed myself.  *sigh*)

That night we went over to Maw Maw and Paw Paw's house for dinner.  Rickybear's cousins were there and so he got to play a bunch with them.  What was cute (and not so cute at all) was when his 4 yr old cousin saw him eating some banana pieces, she asked Paw Paw for a banana.  They thought she wouldn't eat it all so they only gave her half a banana, which she immediately put on Rickybear's tray so he could have it.  Of course he grabbed the entire thing and tried to shove it in his mouth.  Oy!  And he was so mad when I took it away to cut the rest of it up for him.  If I have failed to mention it before, my son is as stubborn as they come and he already has a temper.  I can't wait for the terrible twos!

On Sunday we went to see my folks.  Hubby was finishing up some work he was doing in my dad's garage while I visited with my parents and prepared the sides to go with the boiled crawfish we had.  It was the first time I had crawfish this season and they were super yummy.  And my favorite part of having boiled crawfish?  The leftovers!  Last night I made some crawfish/mushroom/sausage alfredo pasta.  Yum!

This was the only picture that I had that was on a cell phone that required no effort to upload, so here you go.  And I am actually in this one!  Yay!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
