Getting closer...

Obviously that picture is not my kid (he didn't grow 6 inches overnight!), but I don't have a picture of Rickybear with that particular toy.  Little boy  received this as a present for Christmas, but he was too little to do much more than spin some of the easy toys on it.  He is a daredevil on it now!  As of Monday 03/28/11, he can actually walk behind it and push it all the way across the room with ease!  He totally surprised me and daddy!  And he seems so pleased with himself!  The bad news is that since he is kind of short, he likes to stand on the blue base so he can reach more gadgets... and for some reason he thinks he is stable even thought he is teetering all over the place.  On Tuesday night he fell over and crashed and CRIED.  Daddy scooped him up and let him drink from his bottle and he was all good.  So good, in fact, that he decided to climb back up there two more time.  I guess it takes awhile to learn that lesson!

Spoons are yummy...

Boogie had a pretty full weekend.  We sat outside on Saturday under a shade tree and played while daddy slaved away doing yard work and other outside chores.  (Side note: My child screams like I am torturing him when I put sunscreen on him.  Huge tears rolling down his sweet cheeks.  Good grief!)  The neighbors came home and saw us outside, so they brought their lil girl over to play.  I had a very nice time.  I hope I can upload some pics from that day soon.  (Another side note: It's such a pain to upload pictures.  If I try to work on my laptop when Rickybear is awake, he is constantly trying to yank it out of my lap and play on it, plus I don't like ignoring him.  I can't really do it while he is taking a nap, either, because that's when I work on the ever-growing pile of laundry or start making dinner.  And after hubby gets home?  Forget it!  Once I get him fed and the baby put to bed, I am ready for bed myself.  *sigh*)

That night we went over to Maw Maw and Paw Paw's house for dinner.  Rickybear's cousins were there and so he got to play a bunch with them.  What was cute (and not so cute at all) was when his 4 yr old cousin saw him eating some banana pieces, she asked Paw Paw for a banana.  They thought she wouldn't eat it all so they only gave her half a banana, which she immediately put on Rickybear's tray so he could have it.  Of course he grabbed the entire thing and tried to shove it in his mouth.  Oy!  And he was so mad when I took it away to cut the rest of it up for him.  If I have failed to mention it before, my son is as stubborn as they come and he already has a temper.  I can't wait for the terrible twos!

On Sunday we went to see my folks.  Hubby was finishing up some work he was doing in my dad's garage while I visited with my parents and prepared the sides to go with the boiled crawfish we had.  It was the first time I had crawfish this season and they were super yummy.  And my favorite part of having boiled crawfish?  The leftovers!  Last night I made some crawfish/mushroom/sausage alfredo pasta.  Yum!

This was the only picture that I had that was on a cell phone that required no effort to upload, so here you go.  And I am actually in this one!  Yay!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Just don't tell him that it's pink...

This pic was taken last week when Boogie went to story time at the library.  This time he was super distracted because there were a bunch of elementary-aged home-schooled kids that were running around and he was too busy staring at them to read his own books.  I am pretty disappointed that story time will be discontinued in a few weeks.  It'll come back, of course, but I know that mom (and Ricky??) really seem to enjoy the outings.  I also like that he is getting in the habit or reading books.  I know his Maw Maw reads to him as well.

Anyway, he really seemed to like the baby chair.  I am thinking about looking for one to get him now (like the sofa type, not necessarily a rocking chair), but the ones I have seen are super expensive and not in my budget.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Similac Deal!

I found this deal over the weekend, posted by My City Mommy, for the 2 oz Similac Ready to Feed.  My little man doesn't normally drink the liquid anymore because it's so expensive, but I bought some because this deal was great.  So easy to carry in my purse or to keep in the diaper bag when he needs a quick snack.

Abbott Nutrition sells the Similac Advance Ready-to-Feed Infant Formula 2-oz. Bottle 48-Pack for $41.94.  If you use coupon code LUTEIN, it lowers the price to $13.09 and also gives you free shipping.

Isn't 10 months old too young to be defiant??

Dear son,

When I tell you to stop or to come back, it's not as cute as you think it is to stop and smile at me, and then scurry your butt off in the opposite direction!  Oy!

Love,
Mommy

Storytime

Ok, I lied- I wanted to post my favorite pic of the day....

Little boy wasn't content with having just the two sweet librarians read to him, he wanted to join this mommy and her two little girls, too!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Little boy had a really full day yesterday.  He attended lapsit story time (where he hit on some little girls), played on the swing and the jungle gym at the park (where he hit on some more girls), went shopping at Target, and took a stroller ride around the neighborhood with mommy.  Nana sent a million pictures to my phone, but I will just post a pic of him at her house before the adventures began.

Milestone alert!

Life has been busy lately- too busy to boot up the laptop in the evening.  I think Rickybear has forgone his evening nap in favor of playing and getting into all sorts of trouble.  He is still teething like crazy.  He may possibly have some top teeth coming down.  He also had some killer diaper rash pop up out of NOWHERE.  To the point that his skin was bleeding when I tried to use some wipes on him.  Poor baby!  I put a super soft blanket down yesterday and let him go bottomless and diaperless for 2 hours before bedtime- it finally started to look a little better by the time I had him dressed for bed

Below is a cute pic of my mischievous boy helping me put the clean dishes up.  It wasn't taken yesterday, but it's relevant to what I am about to announce....

Little boy can stand up from a sitting position all by himself without support!  The first time I saw it was 03/16/11.  He was sitting on his tush eating some whole wheat pancakes and he leaned forward to reach another piece.  Well he couldn't reach it so well, so he ended up on all fours.  He grabbed the pancake, pushed back to a squat, and then stood up to eat it.  It was so random, lol, but I was super proud.  I knew he had the capability, but he always liked touching something (a leg, the couch, the cat) as security.  Go Rickybear!

Wow, little boy, what will you do next?

Silly boy

Sure, I'll play in the car seat when I want to, but I will kick and scream if you try to strap me in....

Yesterday evening Rickybear's lungs got a really nice workout!  He napped in the swing and when he woke up he started crying.  Not a cranky cry, but an "I'm in pain" cry.  Uh oh...

I get him up and I change his diaper, but he is being really difficult.  I touch his belly and it's rock hard and he won't let me massage it or anything helpful.  He hasn't had a gas problem since he was little, but here it is, rearing it's ugly head.

Long story short- after two doses of gas drops, a tiny dose of Tylenol, some teething tablets, and some Orajel (he was gnawing on his crib like crazy so I didn't know definitively if it was gas alone or gas and teething), forty minutes had passed and he was still screaming.  No amount of quiet time, cuddling, or talking to people on speakerphone (usually his favorite thing to do) would soothe him.  So I scooped him up, covered him with 3 blankets and a skullcap, and strapped him into the stroller along with Scout.  All you could see were his eyeballs!  I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I walked up and down my driveway (in my pajamas and fuzzy slippers) for over 30 minutes.  He was quiet, but not asleep.

I brought him inside at 8:30 pm and daddy came home about 2 mins later.  He was an entirely new baby for daddy.  The gas drops finally worked (a little too well!) and he was super happy an energetic.  *sigh*  Why is it that the baby never has a meltdown on daddy's watch???

I am looking forward to hanging out with him this weekend.  Hopefully we can play in the freshly cut grass (hint, hint, daddy!).

Amazon deals

I haven't had the time to make a decent post, but I wanted to share a few Amazon deals going on right now.  I am an Amazon junkie.  Seriously.

I have never tried their products.  As much as I am trying to be more environmentally friendly, the cost has deterred me.  This would probably be a good time for me to try some.

These are a staple in our house.  Rickybear loves them!  I call them his little surfboards.  They were the first finger foods that he could successfully eat on his own.

Hoping for a fun indoor weekend

I am looking forward to spending the weekend with my little man.  I had intended to have some grownup time and go to a parade, but since there is a 60% chance of rain throughout the day, my time would be better spent doing laundry and snuggling with my baby boy.  *sigh*  =)  I really need to do some spring cleaning and just get rid of some CRAP we have around the house.  And it seems like the house is never clean- last night I swiffered the kitchen floor twice and then mopped and I swear it looked just as bad as it did before.  So yep, I am probably staying home this weekend.

I have tons of pictures on my camera to upload on here over the weekend.  I don't have my cell phone with me today (tragic, I know!!) so I can't even post the pics of Rickybear's busy day yesterday.  While I was still on maternity leave, I brought my 5 week old baby to the library for the lapsit story time.  It was so cute.  The other babies there were like 6 months to a year old, but I swear my baby had fun too.  Oh, and in the 20 minutes that it lasted he went potty twice... loudly.  LOL.  After that, I went back to work and the library discontinued lapsit story time for the rest of the summer due to other programs.  Well, they started it back up after school started, but I could never bring him because I work during the day and can't bring my baby to the one library in town that does it on Thursdays at 10:30a.  Not everyone is a SAHM!  Why can't they do these on Saturdays too??  Some libraries also do evening and pajama story times, but the minimum age limit is 3.  *big pouty face*

My mom decided to take the baby to story time for me yesterday.  He ended up being the only baby there, so he got a lot of attention.  Hopefully I can post the pics tomorrow.  I just love the whole idea- the hand games, the songs, and the books- so great!  And in 2 years, I can take him myself.  He did meet two other babies while there who he was able to interact with (a 3 yr old girl and a 1 yr old boy).  They had to leave this week, but will come to story time next week.  He needs all the interaction he can get with other kids since he doesn't attend daycare.  After that, he and Nana went to the park to swing.  I miss doing these things with him for myself, but we have plenty of mommy-baby time, and I am always sent a lot of pictures so it's *almost* like I am there.

I love that little boy...

Stroller time

Somoebody loves his daily stroller ride...

9 month doctor visit

Rickybear had his 9 month appointment on Tuesday.  I really like our pedi and I appreciate how much individual time she gives us.  She really listens to my concerns and I am so glad that we switched to her (even though we had no problems whatsoever with the other pedi we had).

She confirmed that my baby is probably going to be a little guy.  He was 26.25 inches (around 1 or 2%), 17 lbs 6 oz (also under 5%), and his head was 17.75 inches (10%).  She had me run through how much I feed him and how much formula and she said he was a fantastic eater, but he might just be small.  Since developmentally (his skill level) he was at 12 months, she wasn't too concerned and thinks he might have a growth spurt coming.  She said he won't be a 6 foot tall man, though.  Once he hits 2 yrs old she might be able to predict how tall he will be based on the charts she has.  She likes how strong he was.  [By the way, I didn't realize until I updated the stats page that he weighed exactly the same at nine months as he was at eight months... but he wasn't mobile a month ago so he is burning up calories like crazy now.]
The doctor thought he was too cute.  Breathing and belly were great.  She felt around his mouth and said his second front bottom tooth also cut through (probably Mon night or Tues morning) since it was just barely there).  He doesn't have to go back for another appointment until 12 months.  There will be a lot of shots at that appointment, so I changed it from May 27 to May 31 since I don't want him to have a good time on his birthday party day.  We didn't think we had any shots at this appointment, but once we were almost all the way back home, I received a phone call saying there was an error and he actually did need one.  *sigh*  I am glad they called, though, because I would rather have turned around and gone back to get it than have to take more time off of work.  By the time I got back there, Rickybear was asleep so we gave it to him while he was sleeping.  What a terrible way to wake up!  But after it was over, he let out two cries, grabbed the bottle, and fell back asleep.

We walked with neighbor and her 14 month old baby girl when we got home and then had a little play date.  While over there, he had another milestone.  He was playing with a toy when his playmate stepped in between him and the toy.  He leaned back out of her way and he stood for 16 seconds without support.  The neighbor and I both had our arms outstretched on all sides of him in case he crashed, lol.  It was too cute and I was very proud.  When we got home he went down for a nap, but woke up after 35 mins and didn't stop wailing after that.  He was SO UPSET and I couldn't get him to stop screaming, but it was the effects of the vaccine.  He was better when daddy got home and he had some Tylenol in him.  I put him to bed almost right after daddy got home and he slept like a rock all night.  All smiles the next morning.
